Best Anime Fight

Reigen vs. Claw

Image result for reigen vs claw

I love this fight scene because of it’s bemused, matter-of-fact nature. Reigen has come to get his student back (Mob) from the Claw organization and is thrust into the middle of an epic battle. Mob finally gives in to trust Reigen and lets go of feeling like he has to be the person to fight. As a result of Mob’s decision, Mob transfers his power, unknowingly, to Reigen. Reigen (with new found power) walks around in a confident manner, deflecting everyone in Claw’s attacks with ease and mild amusement. By the end of the fight he ends up chiding Claw and telling them to grow up. This was a brilliant scene and probably my favorite fight.

Saddest Anime Death

I feel at this point I will be treading over familiar territory as we have had “most shocking moment” and “saddest scene”. Now while those other categories don’t necessarily include saddest death, they don’t exclude it either. So I will, instead of naming the “Saddest Death” (because Steins;  Gate and Clannad dominate that for me),  name another sad death moment without weighting it against others.

The final scene.

Now, arguably, Menma was already dead. However, her spirit was not at rest.

The group of childhood friends held on to their grief, guilt, and pain, never letting Menma truly die. Her spirit returns to finish her business so she can move on, but this means her friends, in life, needed to find a way to let her go and let go of their own pain associated with her death. And in this way Menma, finally, actually dies.

The final scene is beautiful, sad, and joyful all in one. It gets me every time.

Excuse me….got something in my eye (*sniff*)..Happy Viewing!

Moment That Shocked You The Most in Any Any Anime

Okay.

I know what anime, but I can’t remember the exact scene.

There is only one anime that made me audibly gasp and that was:

Steins; Gate

Like I said, I don’t know which scene it was but Steins; Gate was an emotional rollercoaster and outstanding work of science fiction.

If you haven’t watched it, do so. So good!

Favorite Attack Someone Used in an Anime

Hmmm….I don’t really have one that comes to mind.

Perhaps?

“Starfish Attack”!

I’m always a sucker for seeing Sunohara beaten up.

Favorite Goofy Anime Character

Mako Mankanshoku (Kill la Kill)

Image result for Mako Mankanshoku

I love Mako. Lazy, hyperactive, goofy, totally off her rocker, but a fearless and amazingly loyal friend. Kill la Kill without Mako definitely would not have been the same. She was a definite needed ray of optimistic goofiness in that show.

Plus there are the Mako moments:

Remember what Mako says:
And everyone on the planet knows that if you win with friendship, you win at life!

Anime Character That Gets on Your Nerves

Two.

Both from the same show.

Both from Nisekoi’s second season.

Paula McCoy

Haru Onodera

I don’t know what it was. Both of them just irritated me to no end. I had read the manga for a while before the second season came out and they annoyed me in the manga as well. Maybe they were supposed to be annoying? I don’t know, but they both got on my nerves.

 Especially Haru…

Most Epic Scene Ever

I am not a good person to answer this. There are tons of epic scenes in shonen style of shows, but I don’t watch those much. I suppose I should choose something from Kill La Kill or Mob Psycho 300. I won’t, even though it may be more accurate in a depiction of “epic-ness”. Instead, as much of the challenge is based on personal preferences, I will choose one that sticks out for me.

It is from Nekomonogatari. Basically it is “Shinobu to the rescue”. I love this scene. You get a small glimpse into Shinobu’s power even now that she is a shadow of her former glory, bound to Araragi, living in his shadow (literally).

This scene always sticks with me. I love it. Shinobu is such a little vampire bad-ass!

I know, another Monogatari related choice….

Favorite Female Supporting Anime Character

Minori Kushieda (Toradora)

Minori is my pick. She is so busy it makes my head spin. Eternally optimistic and driven. A good student, captain of her softball team, and works about 10 jobs. She is also a fiercely loyal and caring friend.

But that is not the whole story. The writers did a great job not leaving her as just that. Beneath the smiling face there is sadness, regret, and pain that she is hiding and as the viewer you get a just enough of a glimpse of this to give her character dimension and richness that sometimes gets forgotten in supporting characters. She is very well written and I really enjoy her character.

Anime With The Best Animation

As a fan of animation in general this is hard for me to answer. Different studios and different stories bring different styles. All have something to bring to the table, so defining something as “best” is a subjective matter even to me.

One may argue that some of the more styles that highlight background realism as best and they’d have a point. I did love the animation of   Kyoto Animation’s “Sound! Euphonium”. It was well done and often quite beautiful.

In contrast an older show like “Serial Experiments Lain” while not as detailed, has a beauty that came out of well thought out direction to make a visually striking impression on the viewer.

There is so much to love in the visuals in anime, so it is hard for me to narrow it down. However, two stand out for me (I’m sure some of you could guess).

The Monogatari series (along with other Shaft titles) do it for me. I love their style of visuals.

The other series that contains my favorite visuals, although it is not my favorite show (don’t get me wrong, I like it), is Soul Eater.

Something about the dark, Halloween-esque, cartoon-ish visuals that just appeal to me. I really love the look of the show.

I so love the visuals on this show! I have considered getting the sun and moon as tattoos I like it so much.

So…Best? So much is good, why a best? You like what you like. Each person has their own criteria of what they find aesthetically pleasing. These were a few of mine.
